Kelly Anson: The lines between market research and marketing are blurring. How to you view it: as a dumbing-down of research? Or, making research (and insights) more accessible?
Marc Mandel: Great question Kelly. I see it as a huge convergence between what would be called, "Consumer Insight", "Customer Experience Management" and digital ethnography. It's not really a dumbing down or a smartening up. It's a logical scope change from the t... [read more]

There seems to be a high interest in leveraging emotions in marketing and advertising. But there doesn't seem to be a well established process or methodology to uncover consumers' emotional aspirations or understand the emotions evoked by a brand. Agree? Disagree? Does someone have a codified process to target emotions?

Randy Brooks posted Rankings versus Ratings

On Tuesday I will be speaking about Rankings versus Ratings. The measurement of consumer attitudes toward brands is a core responsibility of marketing research. The issue is simple, What do consumers think about the brands that compete in a given category in terms of value, performance, versatility, etc. Commonly, when confronted with this task the market research community relies on ratings using scales such as: Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair ... Improvements in online measurement as well as the growing adoption of consumer listening platforms are laying foundation for what we might refer to as “Media Mix Modeling 2.0,” a new framework for maximizing brand value through mixing and weighting “Paid” and “Earned” media.
