We know (or do we?) that digital should be part of the media mix. We think that digital enhances/complements channels such as TV. Are there any case studies?

Haren Ghosh: We do have few case studies along this line. Haren Ghosh Factor TG www.factortg.com

Kelly Anson: The lines between market research and marketing are blurring. How to you view it: as a dumbing-down of research? Or, making research (and insights) more accessible?
Marc Mandel: Great question Kelly. I see it as a huge convergence between what would be called, "Consumer Insight", "Customer Experience Management" and digital ethnography. It's not really a dumbing down or a smartening up. It's a logical scope change from the t... [read more]

Check out Decipher's 30 minute research presentation on Tuesday, March 23 at 11am (Wilder Room 4th Floor). 2009 was a challenging year for both marketers and researchers. There seems to be a high interest in leveraging emotions in marketing and advertising. But there doesn't seem to be a well established process or methodology to uncover consumers' emotional aspirations or understand the emotions evoked by a brand. Agree? Disagree? Does someone have a codified process to target emotions?

Randy Brooks posted Rankings versus Ratings

On Tuesday I will be speaking about Rankings versus Ratings. The measurement of consumer attitudes toward brands is a core responsibility of marketing research. The issue is simple, What do consumers think about the brands that compete in a given category in terms of value, performance, versatility, etc. Commonly, when confronted with this task the market research community relies on ratings using scales such as: Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair ... Kelly Anson: So instead of grading each brand on value, performance, etc. you simply rank all the brands on value, performance, etc.? That does seem to make sense! How is the issue of N/A handled in this case...for example do i rank only Salty Snacks i know, or e... [read more]
Randy Brooks: We only have respondents rank brands they have used. We ask about brand usage on a prior question.

Improvements in online measurement as well as the growing adoption of consumer listening platforms are laying foundation for what we might refer to as “Media Mix Modeling 2.0,” a new framework for maximizing brand value through mixing and weighting “Paid” and “Earned” media. While arguably competitive, paid and earned media also complement and reinforce one another, especially with the right levels of brand readiness, agility, advocacy, and laten... [read more]
